28.06.2012 Living piece of minority sports' history on a visit
Liikkukaa and several member organizations had the pleasure to host interesting guests during midsummer here in Helsinki. TuS Bar Kochba, a German Sports club based in Nürnberg, Bavaria, was here to meet us and play some friendly football under the title Football for Peace. TuS Bar Kochba was established in 1913 as a social-sport club for the Jewish community in Nürnberg. Since 1980’s on, they have gradually grown smaller as a sports club and only have one team running for senior men’s football. In addition, though, they do maintain the memory and tradition of German Jewish sports organizations in the 20th century and arrange social activities and trips to different destinations. Midsummer 2012 it was time for their visit to Helsinki, where Liikkukaa arranged a game between Tus Bar Kochba and HDS-Mondial All Stars. Also many players from other Liikkukaa member organizations like Cosmos Juniors and Spartak participated. Liikkukaa chairman and FARE-board-member Ike Chime greeted the guests. The game was played under the slogan ´Football for Peace´ and people of all faiths and non-believers as well from more than 20 countries played in total harmony, as can be seen here…
In the end everyone was a winner, and after the game we had a sauna and a swim together.
Then we had a tour of the Olympic Stadium, a visit to Liikkukaa office there and a lunch, provided by Liikkukaa member organization, Vantaan Portti. And in the end TuS Bar Kochba invited Liikkukaa to send an All /Old Star team to Nürnberg next summer to play in the famous stadium there at the 100th anniversary of the club. Thank you for the honor and see you then, TuS Bar Kochba! Learn more about the TuS Bar Kochba -story! (In Finnish)
